Cavern storage in the salt dome

Our caverns in Blexen feature eight large, artificially created cavities located in a massive underground salt dome.

These caverns were created by mining using a brine process. To achieve this, the cavern is leached via a deep borehole, using a controlled water supply. The caverns begin at a depth of around 600 metres with the “cavern roof”. Each of our caverns measures around 600 to 800 metres from the ground to the cavern roof, making it taller than the Eiffel Tower. However, the diameter is only around 20 to 40 metres.

The physical properties of the salt guarantee natural impermeability. The surrounding salt is a barrier that is impermeable to oil and gas.
